Alliss Rivera stood upon the large stage and hushed the buzzing crowd for something resembling that of silence. No-one knew who anyone was whilst wearing the enchanted mask, so she had removed hers in order to address the students for the mean time, and begin the festivities. She was currently wearing a long red dress, sleek, with a slit up the leg. She would dress into her sexier devil outfit once she was wearing her mask, after all, no-one would know her true identity unless she told them.

"Welcome all," Alliss' red lips tilted at the corners to form a warm smile. "I am pleased to announce the beginning of the Halloween Masquerade Ball! I hope you all enjoy yourselves and celebrate the magical festivities safely and responsibly. Please, no misuse of the enchanted masks or there will be consequences, the usual rules for a ball also apply: no alcohol, no fighting, etc." She said with a more grave tone to her voice. "Other than that, let the ball begin!" She concluded with a clap of her hands and a broad smile.

Slipping around the curtain, she used a spell to transform her outfit as she placed her sequined red mask against her eyes. No-one would now recognise her, no-one would know she was a professor. Perhaps she could have a little fun tonight, let her hair down so to speak.

Ambrose looked around, smiling at the room full of strangers. He straightened the lapels of his jacket, somewhat proud of his research into Muggle entertainment. Really, he had quite missed out by growing up in the Wizarding World, and intended to make up for it. He moved about the crowd of now curious looking people, wondering briefly if any of them recognised him. Smiling a little brighter, he found the dance floor and waited, seeing if anyone would join the party

Penelope adjusted her white mask as she got close to the entrance of the great hall. She bit her lip, slightly nervous to go into the ball. With the masks, she wouldn't be able to recognize who was who. She'd be in a room of strangers, which wasn't completely unusual, but even those she knew would seem like strangers to her. Penelope closed her blue eyes before taking a deep breath. Her glass slippers made a light clinking noise as she slowly made her way into the room.

There were quite a lot of people there and she wasn't sure what else to do... awkwardly, she made her way towards the edge of the room. Maybe she could have fun watching other people? Letting out a sigh, Penny tried to make the white, sparkly skirt of her dress. She loved being Cinderella and was glad to have the costume. If only her brother would tell her why. Honestly, what was the big secret?

Waycca was surprised to find that she was nervous. Of course, there was no reason to be - besides, shouldn't the mask give her some extra dose of confidence? She shook the feeling off and lifted her chin as she headed toward the snack table. The punch bowl, she thought, was a good meeting place. No one really seemed to like the punch unless it was spiked, and no one would have had the chance to do that so early in the ball. The dress brushing against her legs as she walked added another dose of self-assurance. What was there to be nervous avout anyway? It was a brilliant plan, she thought. She'd kept her makeup minimal as half of her face was covered anyway, and made sure to leave the dormitories before her friends. She'd have to find them later, but for now she had a mission.

For no purpose other than to keep herself busy, she dipped herself a cup of punch. After one sip she but it down, lips pursed at the overly fruity taste.

Molly was one of the first people in the room. She was rather fond of her Dorothy costume. It was slightly risque, very short and a bit poofy, but she didn't care. She felt rather beautiful. Her red hair was pulled into two pigtails and her red mask drew more attention to her blue eyes. Her lips were colored a dark red and she loved it. Red lipstick always made her feel a little better.

Molly's tall red heels not only made her feel taller, but they made such a nice clicking noise as she walked over to the refreshments table to grab herself some punch. Tonight was going to be fun; she'd make it fun. She had been feeling a bit down lately, but tonight was all about letting loose. Moll brought the cup to her lips, thankful that her lipstick was charmed to not come off or smear. She wondered who she'd meet tonight.

Esma's hand reached to tentatively touch the ribbon fastening her mask, ensuring that it was tightly fitted. She could not be more thankful for the opportunity to hide herself from the world in this moment, giving her a chance to explore this new world she had found herself in without the fear of being caught. She looked about, smiling slightly when she realised the trick that had been played on them all; no one else seemed to recognise anyone else in the hall. This certainly would help in her anonymity, she thought to herself.

She walked throughout the crowd of people, feeling slightly unsafe without the familiar bow and arrow around her shoulder or wand in her grasp. The slight shift of a knife strapped to her thigh, however, was enough to keep her from panicking amongst all these people. It was strange to see them all so calm, this world where there were so many different people of all blood statuses. For a moment her actions were slowed as this fact sunk in, increasing her smile. She continued quickly, though, knowing it would not do to stand stock-still in the middle of the dance floor without the intention of socialising, a task she was certainly not up for.

Moving to the edge of the hall, Esma lowered her eyes, taking a moment to only listen to the music

'I'm a beautiful shining star. I am lovely and delightful and just plain adored. Oh pfft, whatever. People love me anyhow.. I just wonder if I'll be able to..'

Luciana's thoughts ran all over the place as she ventured around the room, the Greek-inspired circlet she had around her blonde locks glinting in the light. She was a vision of gold-- literally. It was her favorite color and nobody knew it was her, so why not deck out in it for a night? It was terribly exciting to her, the Ball -- it reminded her of her own little parties she'd conduct back in France. The memories soon escaped her as she went towards the hors d'oerves table, spotting out some delicious looking finger sandwiches.

"I'm gonna get so fat.." she whispered to herself, shrugging and plopping one in her mouth.

Todd straightened his hat anxiously. He was staring out at the crowd of peers in dismay, wondering again why he'd been so excited to come in the first place. He was never anywhere near comfortable in crowds - a small group of people he could deal with no sweat, but the ballroom was quickly filling up. Maybe a lap around the room would help to calm his nerves. So he started walking aimlessly around, keeping close to the wall and gazing out at the sea of students.
He was so busy watching everyone else, in fact, that he failed to watch where he was going. He bumped lightly into a girl in a big white dress that also seemed to be sticking to the outskirts of the room. Brown eyes widened as an apology sprang to his lips.

Penelope's blue eyes were glued to the crowd, watching the comings and goings of people; seeing people meet new people. She pursed her lips slightly, wishing she wasn't so shy. She almost wished that the mask she wore had been enchanted to make her feel courageous. Then maybe she'd meet new people.

So lost in her thoughts, Penelope hadn't noticed the slightly older boy get close to her until he accidentally bumped into her. She swayed a bit, before regaining her balance - heels were hard to stand in, and glass ones didn't make it any easier. A light pink blush spread across her face as he apologized. "I-it's no problem," she told the stranger, brushing a loose strand of her brown hair out of her face; the rest was put up rather loosely, with only a few somewhat curled strands hanging down. Well, this was definitely a new way to meet people - running into them, literally.

Angela sighed, the wig she was wearing made her feel a bit itchy. She felt weird with long hair and she kept brushing it over her shoulder. Her dress was long and white, fitting her rather nicely. She didn't wear heels, though, not really feeling comfortable in them, instead she wore white flats. The wings she had attached to her back were enchanted, moving a bit every now and then.

Ange scrunched her nose, moving her mask so it fit a little better. Well, she didn't really expect to be doing much tonight. Maybe she'd hang out with someone, maybe she wouldn't. In either case, when it was all over, she just wanted to curl up in bed with one of her books.

Gwyneira actually thought this ball was quite a good idea. She could hide her identity even better this was, and on top of that, she really loved her outfit. She wore a red halter ball dress that poofed out. Her black heels were slightly covered by her dress, though the toe of the shoes stuck out slightly. Hanging from her neck was a heart shaped pendant, to go with her costume as the queen of hearts. Her favorite part of the costume, though, was the gold crown that sat high upon her head.

Gwyn's black mask was somewhat delicate, but gave her a more royal appearance. Tonight, she could be a queen and not worry about anyone finding out about her. A smile crossed her deep red lips. This would be a nice way to escape from her running. Perhaps she would forever wear the mask and never have to worry about being found by her stepmother ever again.

Todd flashed a nervous smile, glad she girl hadn't chewed him out for being so reckless. It was then that the glanced at her outfit. There was something familiar about it, but the masks seemed to withhold any details that might lead to realizing who it belonged to. "Cinderella, huh?" he mused, impressed. "It's a relief I didn't knock you over, because that dress is just gorgeous." He wasn't sure where this sudden courage came from - probably the fact that this girl didn't know his identity and vice versa - but he couldn't help a small smirk from slipping into place. Still, striking up a conversation this wat with a stranger was extremely uncharacteristic.

Penelope bit her lip, a small smile forming on her face. Her blush did not retreat, though, but perhaps it had gotten slightly larger. "O-oh, yes," she nodded slightly, her hands lightly smoothing out her skirt. "She's, uh... my favorite... princess." She shrugged slightly. Penelope studied the man's face, trying to see any thing familiar, but the mask withheld everything and therefore she concluded that she was talking to someone she had absolutely never met before. It made her nervous, but she tried not to stutter too much.

"Th-thank you," Penelope smiled a bit, glancing down. She still wasn't good at taking compliments, even if it was about her dress. Her blue eyes glanced back up to look at him. "Your costume is very... nice as well. I, uh, quite like your mask."

Tonight, Brieanne could be whoever she wanted. Tonight, she could tap into that 'side nobody needed to see'.

And that was why she was dressed like she was.

A feathery high-low gown hugged every inch of her body, her pregnant belly absent from view. A spiky-looking brooch jutted from her chest, accenting both her trident-like crown and her ballet shoes. She held her head high, gliding through the crowd lightly She felt different -- tonight, she was in tune with herself. She was the Black Swan as well as the White -- two regal creatures, both very different in persona. Her long legs carried her to the dance floor, the girl smiling as she began to lose herself in the music.

Dean straitened the collar of his tuxedo jacket as he entered the Great Hall, he had spent the better part of an hour struggling with the bowtie before finally getting it to sit right. The black mask was pressed snugly to his face, but he still felt as though everyone’s eyes could see right through him. Ignoring his uncertainties, he trained his eyes forward and strode towards the refreshments table, where they had agreed to meet.

Todd's smile widened. "Why thank you, Princess-" He needed something to call her while he didn't know her name, didn't he? "-I picked it out myself." He paused, wondering if he might know this girl. It was actually pretty unlikely that he did, considering that he only spoke to his circle of friends if to anyone at all; he wouldn't know most of these people personally. "I'm afraid it's not nearly as impressive as yours - mine's not really a costume at all, but I figured someone else would want to be Cindy so I didn't wear my dress. It looks better on you anyway, I'm sure."

Penelope's grin widened as she giggled. She was glad that her blush was hidden rather well behind her mask, or hoped so anyway. The Princess nickname did not do her justice, she thought, but then... she was dressed as a Princess, so why couldn't she be one for the night? "Oh, well, I'm glad we didn't have clashing outfits," she laughed. She was trying to picture this masked man in the same outfit and once she did, it was very hard to unsee. She had to bite back her laughter so she didn't look completely crazy - no need to scare him off, really. "Well, in any case, I think you look very... Charming."

Waycca scanned the growing crowd for anyone that might resemble who she was looking for. Fortunately, there was only one male by the snack table, with two other girls getting themselves refreshments. She smoothed her dress and abandoned the cup of punch, coming to stand before the man in a tux. It was infuriating that the charm seemed to keep any identifying features hidden. The only thing to do was introduce herself and hope she was right.
She fixed a smirk on her face and said, "I'm Waycca Louise, sir. And you are?"

((Jumping between accounts like a madwoman is exhausting.))

"Yes, that's very fortunate," Todd agreed with a grin. "Otherwise I may have started a catfight, and you would have beat me up." He chuckled, surprised at how easy this was. He would have expected himself to be far more anxious in a time like this, but the conversation just felt natural. He smiled at her compliment, rather not expecting it. "I'm glad you think so. It gives ne hope that one pretty girl might say such a thing."

"Oh, I doubt it," Penny smiled. As if Penelope was strong, but then, that was why it was a funny joke. Penelope could slowly feel herself warming up, getting a bit more comfortable. Her stutter wasn't too bad anymore, though simple compliments tended to throw it back into the sentence. Still, though, she hadn't expected to be this comfortable. Penny blushed, bit her bottom lip as she smiled. "O-oh, w-well... you're very welcome then," Penny stuttered once more.

((I mean, I only have two characters so I shouldn't be complaining, but I'm too lazy for all this hopping!))

Todd smiled, relaxing a bit as he leaned his back against the nearest wall. Yes, conducting a conversations with this 'Princess' was proving to be very fun indeed. "So, am I allowed to ask how old you are or would that take away from the..." He waggled his eyebrows and waved a hand in the air to encompass the whole ball. "...mystery?" He honestly wanted to make sure he wasn't flirting - for that must surely be what he was doing, though the boy was surprised to realize it - with a tall, intelligent first year.

[haha, yes, I completely understand that feeling. xD]

Penelope laughed once more and nodded. "Yes, I suppose so. I can't see how it would hurt," she gave a one shoulder shrug. "I just turned seventeen not too long ago." She liked saying that - seventeen. That meant, in the wizarding world, she was now an adult. She could use magic freely now and not have to worry about the consequences. Not that she needed to, she could get on without magic, she just liked it. Plus, being an adult was kind of cool. She was no longer a kid. "And what about you?" She questioned back, as it only seemed fair to know his age as well. She figured he was around the same age, though one could never know for sure by just looking.

["with a tall, intelligent first year." <--- I am dying, that really made me laugh. xD Because I could only imagine how awkward that would be. omg xDD]

Todd raised his eyebrows and nodded, rather satisfied with that answer. Crisis adverted. "I had a birthday semi-recently, too, actually," he replied, though he did keep forgetting that he himself wasn't seventeen anymore. It took a while to get used to be one year older. "Just turned eighteen." He didn't feel any older, which was kind of a relief. His eyes traveled to where some people were starting to dance and then turned back ti her, a wide grin in his face. "Do tell, Princess," he began. "Do they teach you to dance in that castle if yours?"

((Omg, I know, but it's so the kind of thing Todd would worry about XD))

Pocahontas entered the Great Hall, wearing her sexy peacock costume. Her black hair down half up while the rest rained down her back.

She walked around the Great Hall, immediately heading to the dance floor. Her eyes scanned the room, hoping to see a familiar blonde, but the masks were not helping in her search.

"Oh wow, how ironic," Penelope laughed. So, she had been right. He was around her age, a year older in fact. She wondered if maybe she had seen him around before. She was half tempted to ask him what house he was in, but thought that might definitely take the mystery away. Age was one thing, house was another. She liked the mysteriousness of it all, too, it was... exciting.

Penelope then bit the end of her lip. "They teach it... I just can't say I'm very good at it," she smiled. She actually wasn't sure either way whether or not she could dance. She hadn't ever really been asked to - that she can remember - and it wasn't like she had practiced. How hard could it really be though? You just needed to have precision, coordination, and elegance. None of which Penelope really had a lot of. Still though, she wouldn't mind trying it out...
