Water's Edge [@John] Empty
PostSubject: Water's Edge [@John]   Water's Edge [@John] EmptySat Nov 03, 2012 8:56 am

Vanessa was hovering above the water of the Black Lake. She enjoyed visiting the lake - she didn't need to breathe so she often would explore the murky depths relentlessly, and sometimes she'd be down there so long that when she resurfaced, the world would be dark with a pale moon lighting up the grounds. She'd encountered the mermaids on multiple occasions, but she had yet to meet the Giant Squid - which was what she had been looking for previously. But now she was floating above the lake, watching her own reflection stare back up at her from the dark water below. She was reasonably close to the edge, and she was quite alone. Nobody wanted to be out by the lake at this time of the year - it was too cold for that. It was during the late autumn and winter months that she most commonly ventured outside. She wondered, silently, how bizarre she might look to a passerby - a grey, translucent girl floating above a large, ominous-looking body of water.

John had bundled himself up rather decently. He wore his normal black trousers and boots, but instead of his tweed jacket, he wore a rather long, black cloak. For once he seemed rather... wizard-like. It was probably the warmest thing he owned, the cloak, so naturally he wore it to venture outside. It was rather cold outside, enough that he could see every breath he exhaled, forming a mist that ventured up to the heavens.

Jonathan Smith had woken up this chilly evening in his bed, all alone, with only one thought on his mind. Vanessa. He hadn't had much interaction with, well, anyone since his little accident. He and Molly had some bonding time in the infirmary, as they were both injured rather badly. Peter, obviously came to see him, and so did Vanessa, but those were worried hospital visits. Personal, alone time was what they had missed out on lately. So, knowing Vanessa well enough now, John bundled himself up and headed outside.

Sure enough there she was, down by the lake. She hovered over it, grey and translucent. It was almost like a painting or a story. He smiled for a moment at the sight of her, for he always did. She was still as beautiful as ever and seeing him made him happier and happier. He let out a small, content sigh as he slowly and silently made his way towards the lake.

"Why, Corvus, I do believe you're out past curfew," he teased lightly as he finally approached the water's edge, his lips tugging up in a small smile. Of course, being a ghost, she had no curfew, but since she still had the appearance of a student, he was sure to make comments as such. He knew she enjoyed be alone sometimes and that she favored the quiet of the cold, nighttime scenery.

Vanessa turned, with a small smile on her face, to see John standing by the edge of the lake. She frowned at him, as he joked about her curfew, before poking her tongue out at him. She spared a final glance at her reflection below her, before drifting towards the edge of the lake, where John stood. He was dressed in warmer clothing then the kind she usually saw him in, and at that she smiled. "Cold out?" She smirked, considering his thick cloak. She felt nothing, the cold didn't bother her. She was perfectly fine, even in her school uniform.

"And I don't have a curfew so shut up!" She said, crossing her arms over her chest. He really was a complete idiot. She paused, glancing around momentarily. It had gotten dark quite suddenly, and there was nobody around. Why would there be? Most students didn't find the prospect of being outside when it was cold and dark that inviting - not when they could sit by the fireplace in their common room and do their studying there instead. "Why are you out here so late?" She asked, quietly.

The last time they'd spoken was in the Hospital Wing, but they hadn't said very much. She'd only briefly been around since there were other patients and visitors there and she preferred them having privacy. Vanessa watched him carefully, as if examining him. "Are you alright?" She asked, suspecting that she probably sounded a little silly for asking, but not really caring. She wanted confirmation. She was close to him, floating by his side with a small smile on her face. She'd missed him. They hadn't spoken in a while. She found his hand with her own and held onto it tightly.

John simply chuckled when she poked her tongue out at him and, being such the child that he was, he reciprocated the gesture. Really now, it was hard to believe sometimes that he was thirty years old; he acted more like a nine year old than anything else. Always running about, and getting excited about things, and acting childish in one way or another. It was surprising he seemed to have all this energy at all. John laughed once more and gave Vanessa an amused look. "Maybe, just a little." He knew she didn't feel it, therefore she did not have to worry about wearing a coat outside... he wasn't even sure if she'd be able to at all, really. He actually quite liked the cold, though, if he were to be truly honest.

"Oh, right, how could I have forgotten," he lightly tapped himself on the forehead and shrugged. As if he could ever forget anything about Vanessa... not after having found her again, that is. He had once forced himself to forget her... after she had... died, and it had worked until he came across her ghost when he came to work here. "Oh well, I don't know. Seemed like such a beautiful night out, might as well enjoy it." It was a lie. Sort of. He had come out looking for her, the fact that it was a beautiful night was merely a nice coincidence.

John's eyes never left her and he couldn't help but notice her almost examined him. He gave her a small smile, knowing that she cared was simply enough for him. He gave a small nod, looking down at the ground for a moment. "Yes, I'm doing quite fine. Much better," he widened his smile as he glanced back up at her, almost to prove that he was indeed feeling much better. The pain had finally gone away, though he still had some medicine to help him go to sleep. He shouldn't need it for much longer, though, he hoped.

He watched as she floated closer to him. He glanced down for a brief moment to see her transparent hand take his solid one. The coldness of her touch barely bothered him one bit. He liked the cold, remember? His blue eyes wandered up to hers once more and his head tilted to the side as he smiled. He loved being close to her. It sent him on a natural high that he never wanted to come down from.
